At the University of Toronto Formula Racing team, students are applying professional-grade development practices to their electric race car. In the 2024–25 season, the team migrated its control software to FreeRTOS and adopted Percepio Tracealyzer for real-time insight into system behavior. By visualizing task execution and timing, they achieved the same level of reliability and safety demanded in automotive-grade firmware, long before the car hit the track.
“What stood out most – a consensus across the electrical team – was the clarity provided by its visualisation tools. The timeline views let them confirm that safety-critical tasks such as fault monitoring and Can message handling always pre-empted lower-priority processes.”
