Press Release: Improved Tracealyzer Support for IAR Embedded Workbench and Renesas Synergy MCUs

Västerås, Sweden, 5th July 2018    * * *   Percepio, the leader in software trace visualization for embedded systems and IoT, today announced improved Tracealyzer streaming support for Renesas Synergy MCUs and IAR Embedded Workbench. As of Tracealyzer v4.1.5, available for download immediately, IAR users can fully benefit from the advanced capabilities offered by Tracealyzer 4, allowing for easier debugging, validation and profiling of RTOS-based applications.

The new version enables continuous streaming of trace data from Renesas Synergy MCUs into Percepio Tracealyzer for live visualization of the software behavior, using IAR Embedded Workbench and IAR I-Jet as data channel.

Renesas Electronics has supported this work by providing hardware and software within the Renesas Synergy Platform, where Percepio contributes as a partner on the Renesas Synergy Gallery.

Henrik Flodell, Sr. Manager Product Marketing, Business Development at Renesas Electronics America, comments: “Tracealyzer is a great tool for profiling, optimizing and making sure embedded projects finish on schedule, and I’m very happy to see all the improvements Percepio are making to it. Customers working on RTOS-based software solutions choose Renesas Synergy Platform to accelerate their development, and this new functionality can now help keep development cycles in check even more.”

Percepio CEO and founder Dr. Johan Kraft comments: “Tracealyzer 4 is a massive improvement over previous Tracealyzer versions and we are really happy to now provide the streaming capability to IAR users in a convenient way. Many developers have asked for this and the I-Jet works great for this purpose. Many thanks to Renesas for supporting this work.”

The new Tracealyzer streaming support relies on Arm’s ITM module (Instrumentation Trace Macrocell), included in all Renesas Synergy MCUs using Arm Cortex-M3, M4 and M7 cores. Note that Tracealyzer also support trace streaming using other popular debug probes, including the USB debug interface on the Renesas Synergy boards.

Tracealyzer 4 was released in March 2018 and includes over 30 interconnected views showing the runtime behavior of RTOS-based embedded and IoT software systems. A summary of the new capabilities in Tracealyzer 4 is found at here.
